Abruzzo Maps and Highlights

The Abruzzo region is one of the less-visited regions of Italy. The Abruzzo Region is dominated by national and regional parks, as shown in the Abruzzo map below. It is a wild and extremely scenic country, with many unspoiled medieval villages and festivals with ancient roots. For this reason, a rental or lease car is advisable, as is a good map.

You'll occasionally see references to the "Abruzzi" region. This is because the Abruzzo was at one time divided into three regions, Abruzzo Citeriore (Chieti), Abruzzo Ulteriore I (L’Aquila) and Abruzzo Ulteriore II (Teramo), so the plural, Abruzzi was used to describe the whole. This is no longer the case.
